About the Region

Welcome to Midt-Telemark and Nome!

Here in our region there are two municipalities - Nome municipality and Midt-Telemark municipality (Bø and Sauherad formed a new municipality from 1 January 2020). Midt-Telemark borders Notodden in the north, Kongsberg in the east, Skien and Nome in the south, and Seljord in the west. You can reach this area by car, bus or train. Explore Nome

Explore Nome, known as the region's great canal municipality, where the locks even adorn the town's coat of arms. Six of the Telemark Canal's eight lock systems are located here, including the largest, Vrangfoss, with five lock chambers and an impressive lift height of 23 metres.

Ulefoss is also home to Ulefos Hovedgaard, Norway's most outstanding architectural work from the Napoleonic period.

Explore Midt-Telemark

Bø in Telemark is known for trade, studies and tourism, with both Bø Sommarland and USN (University of South East Norway) as important attractions.

Gvarv is known as the Fruit Village and is characterised by a rich landscape with 500,000 fruit trees, including apples, plums and morels. Every year, the Norwegian Apple Festival is organised in Gvarv to celebrate the year's apple harvest.
