Riding Experiences with Bø & Lifjell Turridning AS

Here at Bø & Lifjell Turridning AS, we offer a variety of guided horseback rides of different lengths and skill levels in the beautiful Lifjell mountains during the summer season, from June to August.
Among our popular tours are:

  • Half-day rides

  • Half-day rides with lunch at Lifjellstua

  • Two-hour rides

  • Full-day rides

  • Ride to the beautiful lake Gavlesjå

  • Overnight trip to Hollane

But our activities don’t stop when summer ends!
From September to May, we move our operations to Hørte in Midt-Telemark, where our horses live freely at Stall Sverdmyr.
Here we have many regular riders and offer a variety of tours and courses for everyone.
Below, you can read more about our year-round offers:

Part-Board Agreement (Fòrrytteravtale)

Our calm and steady Icelandic horses are full of personality and will take you on everything from peaceful forest rides to thrilling gallops and exciting trail adventures.

We have horses suited for children, beginners, and experienced riders alike – there’s a perfect match for everyone.

At the stable, we have a fantastic and welcoming environment with many friendly riders.
We emphasize safety and make sure everyone feels included, regardless of age, gender, or experience.
There’s usually always someone around, so you’ll often have the option to ride together with others if you wish.

You can choose how many days per week you’d like to ride – from one day and up.

Ride When It Fits You

Would you like to have a horse to ride, but your schedule is unpredictable – with shift work, kids every other week, or other time challenges?
Then our concept “Ride When It Fits You” might be perfect!

You purchase six single rides (like a punch card) and simply contact us a few days in advance to agree on day, time, and horse.
You can also plan several weeks ahead with flexible times – for instance, a morning ride one week and an evening ride the next.
If one week doesn’t work out, you can simply skip it.

You’ll get the most flexibility by being open to riding different horses, as some already have regular part-boarders on set days.
This option is best suited for riders who are experienced and comfortable handling a horse on their own after an introduction.

Regular Trail Rider

If you only want to ride on guided trail rides, you can sign up as a regular trail rider.
You prepay for a set number of tours and simply show up at the scheduled time to enjoy a lovely ride at your own pace.

Scheduled Trail Rides

We offer guided riding tours all year round, and we’ve been doing what we love since 2016!
During our time at Hørte, we organize several tours with varying difficulty and duration, such as:

  • Easy 2-hour ride

  • 2-hour ride for experienced riders

  • Half-day ride

  • Full-day trip to beautiful Skåråfjell

  • Christmas holiday ride (Romjulstur)

  • Good Friday long ride

Activities at the Stable

In addition to our trail rides, we also host several activities, including lessons and clinics.

Lessons with Madelen Angell-Jacobsen Brustuen

We’re lucky to have Madelen with us throughout the winter season.
She’s an excellent rider and instructor who focuses on creating strong, healthy horses that enjoy their work.
“For me, it’s important to have a sound, happy horse that wants to work with us.
Riders of all levels are welcome – I always adapt to both horse and rider.
My main focus is on communication and influence: what we do, why we do it, and how it affects the horse.”

Madelen has four years of experience from Sagahestar Bergåsa, training horses of all ages and levels.
She is a certified horse trainer and B-level instructor through NIHF, and she has also competed at a high level – including as part of Team Norway at the 2022 Nordic Championships in Finland.

Course with Morten Løver:

We are so fortunate that Morten Løver is coming to teach us. Morten is an incredibly skilled instructor who expresses himself clearly and understandably, no matter what level you are at.
Morten has worked with horses his whole life; he is a knowledgeable horseman who understands horses well. He teaches and competes in Icelandic horse riding, and he also takes horses in for training as well as students for lessons. Løver is an experienced competition rider and aims to participate in the World Championships. He has received support from trainers such as Christina Lund and Ambjørg Dahl.

Horses for Kids

Studies show that children who spend time with horses experience a sense of mastery, closeness, care, and confidence.
It helps them become braver, boosts self-esteem, improves decision-making, and strengthens communication and leadership skills.

At Lifjell Ski Resort, we arrange activity days for children aged 8–13.
They get to take part in grooming, and of course – riding!

Our Icelandic horses are small, calm, and used to children.
These days are filled with joy, learning, and a strong sense of accomplishment.

Equestrian vaulting Course:

Would you like to try something truly unique – a combination of gymnastics, dance, and horseback riding? Join us and discover vaulting, the fantastic sport where you learn to move with the horse in a completely new way! You don’t need any prior experience.
A day filled with play and fun on and with the horse, along with basic vaulting exercises.

Ladies’ Weekend

Looking for an exciting getaway?
Bring your sister, friends, or come alone – and we guarantee you’ll meet wonderful new people!
Remember: Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet!

Our Ladies’ Weekend is perfect for everyone – whether you’ve only seen horses on TV or have riding experience.
One of our gentle, cooperative Icelandic horses will be your loyal companion throughout the weekend.

By the end of the weekend, you’ll have shared laughter, friendship, achievement, and plenty of memorable moments.

We also welcome custom group bookings and can tailor activities and tours to your wishes.
