Discover the History of Bø
In 1954, Bø became an important educational centre with the establishment of its own national high school. In 1970, Bø also became an educational hub when Telemark District College was established here. The school formed the basis for what later became Telemark University College, which today is part of the University of Southeast Norway, Bø department.
Bø has been a place of education and development for decades, and has continued to play a central role in the region's academic landscape.
Summer Destination Bø
Bø Sommarland has also helped put Bø on the map and made Bø an important summer destination in Norway. Bø has a large selection of accommodation and several campsites with cabin hire.
As a tourist in Bø, you can also experience the Lifjell mountain area with a large selection of hiking trails and ski slopes in winter. Lifjell is also home to Lifjellstua, a beautiful little mountain lodge with a cosy restaurant and accommodation.
Rich Cultural Traditions
Bø is also known for its strong cultural traditions, particularly in Norwegian folk music, folk costumes, folk dancing, fele building (Norwegian version of a violin) and silversmithing. For many years, the village has been an important centre for the preservation and development of these traditions.
Every year, the Telemark Festival is organised, with folk music as its main focus. The festival attracts both national and international artists and is a celebration of the region's musical heritage.
